My current work is a exploration of patterns through the use of multi-layered cane and murrini. I look to combine these incredible complex pattern decoration with sensual forms. Each piece begins with careful planning of colors and patterns. Then colored and clear glass is melted and combined to pull complex cane and murrini. I then combine these into a composition to create the patterns in each piece. After the patterns are made I am able to shape the piece into its final shape to be frozen in time. I find glass to be both seductive and demanding . Being able to create precision from what once just a pool of liquid glass intrigues me. The use of glass cane that has influenced my work are very old Venetian techniques. By mastering these traditional techniques and modifying them in new ways, I am able to create classic designs with a modern look. I feel by taking this approach I am discovering something new out of something old. |
